AWS has launched Amazon WorkSpaces for AI agents into general availability, giving AI agents a managed cloud desktop environment where they can see screens and operate legacy desktop applications — ERP systems, CRMs, mainframes, and proprietary tools — the same way a human worker would, without requiring those applications to be modernized or rebuilt. The GA release introduces several capabilities shaped by preview feedback: MCP (Model Context Protocol) tool forwarding lets agents interact with desktop applications via direct MCP calls rather than slower computer-use vision tools, improving accuracy and cutting latency and cost; real-time session control gives human operators live visibility with the ability to revoke an agent's access mid-session; and domain-joined fleet support allows agents to operate under existing Active Directory identities. The service works with any agent framework that supports MCP and is priced by active session time, making it relevant to agent builders targeting back-office automation in insurance, healthcare, finance, and similar regulated industries.
