Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Adds Agent Payment Infrastructure via Coinbase and Stripe

ai-in-adtech big-tech build-vs-buy engineering

AWS just made agentic commerce real infrastructure. AgentCore Payments — built with Coinbase and Stripe and now in preview — lets AI agents autonomously pay for APIs, MCP servers, web content, and other agents, handling the full stack from wallet auth to spending governance. The developers-build-it-themselves era for agent billing is over; the question now is which payment rails — crypto or card — actually dominate when machines are the buyers.

Full analysis

AWS has launched a preview of AgentCore Payments, enabling AI agents to autonomously pay for APIs, MCP servers (Model Context Protocol — a standard for connecting agents to external tools), web content, and other agents. Built in partnership with Coinbase and Stripe, it covers the full payment lifecycle from wallet authentication through transaction execution to spending governance. AWS frames this as essential infrastructure as services shift to pay-per-use models built for machine consumption, eliminating the need for developers to build custom billing integrations, credential management, and budgeting from scratch.
