AWS just made the "production-ready AI agent" problem an infrastructure commodity. AgentCore Harness — now GA — wraps tools, memory, identity, and observability into a managed runtime that any model (Bedrock, OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) can slot into via three API calls, running in isolated microVMs. The Step Functions integration is the real tell: AWS isn't building an agent platform, it's stitching agent reasoning into the orchestration layer enterprises already depend on. AWS launched AgentCore Harness in public preview (subsequently moving toward GA), providing a managed environment for production-ready AI agents that handles tools, environment management, context, memory, identity controls, and observability — all configurable through three API calls. Harness supports any model provider including Bedrock, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Gemini, and runs agents in secure isolated microVMs with persistent memory. AWS Step Functions also gained native integration with AgentCore Harness, enabling teams to embed agent reasoning steps into production workflows with human approval gates and conditional routing.
